Miley Cyrus turns sweet 16 By Alan Fein (AXcess News) New York - Miley Cyrus just turned "sweet 16" and to celebrate she threw a bash at, where else, Disney Land! But don't think it was all birthday girl wishes for Cyrus who sang before a paying audience, if you can call that a birthday celebration. I don't know whether to call child services, or applaud her parents for ringing another buck out of their talented daughter Miley while they still can. Just a few more years and Miley Cyrus will be an adult and if she's lucky, she'll still be box office draw - assuming she'll want to stay in the spotlight as an entertainer. The young actress certainly has a talent for performing, both in front of the camera and as a singer, having sold out most of her performances to thousands of screaming preteens and their parents who paid above average ticket prices to attend her concerts. To see Miley Cyrus sing at her sweet 16 birthday bash at California's Disney Land, parents had to fork over $250 per ticket. Miley's father, Billy Ray Cyrus says "Miley's hard to please". But then what teenager isn't? At least Billy Ray can afford to buy his little gold miner what ever her sweet 16 year-old heart desires - as long as it doesn't smudge her image as an adorable, don't you wish you were me, image. The Washingtonpost.com's Liz Kelly hit the nail on the head this morning when she wrote: "Her parents have little in the way of judgment and even less regard for their daughter's well-being," in commenting on how her parents turned her 16th birthday into a "spectacle". Kelly says, and with some accuracy in comparative narrative (hey, that rhymes!) that Miley Cyrus appears to be heading down the same path as two other Disney darlings of the pre-teen years, Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan, who have both suffered trauma in their lives as they began adulthood. As if every teen has this problem, Vanity Fair says Miley Cyrus is heading towards being worth $1 billion by the time she's 18. Ya, right... and the rest of us just say 'no, we can't afford it' when our teenage daughters ask to buy new clothing because Miley's wearing it! |
