Nevada lawmakers cave in to Gay Rights legislation. Governor vows to veto Bill

By Eric Stevenson

(AXcess News) Carson City, NV - Instead of dealing with the dramatic economic impact of Nevada's budget shortfall, the largely Democratic group of State legislators passed a bill recognizing Gay Rights which GOP Governor Jim Gibbons vowed to veto.

Nevada Senators approved an amendment to the legislation granting same-sex couples in Nevada the same rights as married couples, though the legislative body stopped short of recognizing gay-marriage outright.

With a massive push from gay political groups, the Nevada domestic partnership legislation places Nevada businesses and government in the position of giving equal rights to live-in couples' mates as if their spouse under Nevada law.  The cost to the State and business community is pegged in the millions, though the group of lesbian, homosexual and left-leaning political watchdog groups they indirectly support placed so much pressure on lawmakers no outside faction for common morality had a chance against the largely pro-left group of Nevada news publications who support liberal actions.

In a press announcement Wednesday, HRC Nevada Political Co-Chair Steve Amend was quoted as saying, "Today's vote is a victory for same-sex couples in Nevada."

The Governor's Office has not released comment to the press at the time of this publication, though Gibbons has indicated that he will veto the legislation.
