Reggie Bush could lose Heisman Trophy

(AXcess News) Reno -  Former University of Southern California running back Reggie Bush could lose his Heisman Trophy if the Heisman Trust votes to strip the star college football player of the sport's top honor stemming from an NCAA decision that he was not eligible in 2005.

Bush, who now plays for the New Orleans Saints, has not commented on the possibility that the Heisman Trust could rule in favor with the NCAA decision, though the NFL player did say in a statement following the NCAA's decision: "I have a great love for the University of Southern California and I very much regret the turn that this matter has taken, not only for USC, but for the fans and players."

Bush was deemed ineligible for the 2005 college football season by the NCAA investigation which released a report in June that covered 18 points of violation of amateur standing, essentially accusing Bush of accepting favors and cash payments to play for the Trojans.

Bush met with members of the Heisman Trust last month in New York.  If the Trust votes in line with the NCAA decision, it would be the first time in 75 years that the top college football award was ever stripped from a player.  Should Bush lose his Heisman Trophy, the position would remain vacant on the record.
