(AXcess News) Reno - Wrestling star Hulk Hogan, 56, was admitted to the Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater, Fla. on Monday complaining of back pain he says came from bending over to collect sea shells.  Hogan said spasms from his leg up to his hip finally forced him to face the pain and check himself into the hospital.

Hulk Hogan told fans from his hospital bed, "My back went into a major spasm from hip all the way to the middle of my back - it just totally overwhelmed me."

Hogan had been celebrating the Labor Day holiday weekend with his girlfriend Jennifer McDaniel when after bending over to collect shells repeatedly caused his back to go into spasms, though while doctors are saying Hogan may have torn a muscle in his back, old injuries from his wrestling days may be the real culprit.  A pinched nerve from being body slammed over and over may be the underlying problem with the aging wrestling star turned actor.

In the past, Hulk Hogan has had multiple back surgeries due to his wresting injuries.

Hogan said he had laid in bed a day after suffering the back pain and had to call an ambulance the next morning because he could "barely move'.

Now the wrestling star is pinned to a hospital bed and may be hospitalized for several more days.

Hogan (real name Terry Bollea) has suffered from more than back pain in his life, having even considered suicide over the breakup and divorce from his wife Linda Bollea after a 24-year marriage ended on the rocks over her accusation of infidelity, accusing H.H. of having an affair.

Linda Bollea filed for divorce in November, 2007, which was finalized in July, 2009.

Hulk and Linda have two children together - Nick, 20 and Brooke, 22.

In his autobiography, My Life Outside the Ring, Hulk wrote, “There were times when I thought that a whole bottle of pills would go down easy."

But Hogan's life has turned for the better and he is now engaged to be married to Jennifer McDaniel - his girlfriend of two years.
