Creative Webmaster We're looking for writers interested in contributing political op-ed pieces, film, music and book reviews, sports coverage is especially desirable - both college and pro. sports stories can be about golf, cycling, snow boarding, skiing, scuba diving, hockey, baseball, football, basketball, cricket, soccer, climbing, sky diving - if its a sport - we're interested in it. We publish the following categories of news: National, World, Technology, Health, Environmental, Sports, Entertainment and Business. Writers who have a penchant for any of these areas should submit stories for consideration. Columnists are also wanted. Writers who know how to spin humor into their work is of special interest to our editor-in-chief. We are looking for political writers who lean towards the Democrats, but not too liberal. Columnists should be able to give our readers insightful analysis of national events in the news. A background in political science or social studies may be particularly helpful. Technology writers who can submit stories on the latest trends on the Internet, component manufacturing (semiconductor), computing, software, hardware and peripherals are wanted. Writers should have some background in the technology field and be able to offer commentary-style reports on new gadgets or programs. IT, Linux, Windows, PHP, XML are all areas we're interested in receiving story submittals. Environmental stories are hard to come by. There are oodles of interested readers but very few stories being submitted. These can be about international, national, regional and local environmental issues. Not all stories need take a regulatory angle - though stories related to EPA rules and regulations are highly desirable. Writers might consider story submissions about businesses that tackle environmental cleanup or toxic chemicals. They can even be about recycling efforts at a community level. These are especially of interest to our audience. Entertainment is a new addition to our news. We are keenly interested in hearing from writers who like to write movie reviews. Gossip-type stories about hollywood celebrities are also in demand, including day-time soaps and weekly TV programs. If your a lover of music then we want to hear from you. We want reviews on performers CDs. These should be known, popular artists for rap, country western, rock and christian music. Many musicians today have also had their scuffles in court - and on the street. Stories about the lives of musicians is also wanted. Book lovers are also asked to submit their reviews. Book reviews should be about main-stream authors works, not one-time paperback authors you may know (sorry). Business stories are almost always accepted. We are looking for writers who can provide stories about law (especially corporate), corporate governance, mergers, acquisitions and those ever-popular penny stocks. Submissions should not be made by public relations agents trying to promote their customer's stock. We will not do your work for you (sorry). Business stories are not necessarily about large, public companies. It could be about the local hardware store, starting a business or unusual family-type businesses - like a cat motel or lama farming. Agricultural stories are also wanted. These can be about a family farm's plight to stay in business, national stories about agricultural rules and regulations, exports/imports and foreign trade. Grain markets and futures reporting is in demand. Writers who already produce weekly or daily commentary on commodities of any type should contact us about carrying their work. Existing commodity columnists with their own web sites can receive extraordinary attention from us - and traffic referral. Mining, oil & gas and mutual funds are all areas we want stories in. Mining should not be limited to holes in the ground, but could include precious metals, coin collecting, or workers in those fields. We would look at human-interest articles about mining communities in general and how those businesses affect everyone's daily lives. Here are some general guidelines:
The average length for reviews is between 500 and 800 words. Other story submissions should be 300 to 500 words. Tabloid style submissions are acceptable in our Entertainment news section. These can be as little as 200 words as long as the point of the article is fully covered in a concise manner. Gossip-type stories work well in tabloid style submissions. Article Submissions When sending article proposals, please send them as attachments to your email in Word or Notepad. We prefer Notepad. If your interested in submitting pictures for consideration, please send them to our Creative Department. Pictures should be gif or jpeg files only and can be attached directly to your email. Please use the term "picture submission" in the heading of your email. Pictures used in any of our stories will credit that author. Cartoonists should send samples of their work to our editor-in-chief for consideration. Please use the term "cartoon submission" in the heading of your email. We are especially interested in weekly toon strips via java script that automatically update. No adult or suggestive content please. If your looking for your car payment or extra spending money, at this time we hate to disappoint you, but we are not able to pay for stories. We hope to develop a compensation program in the future for writers who submit content to us on a regular basis. Writers who submit their work may qualify for e-book publication in the future. It is our desire to promote our writers as best we can, and we take every step possible to do just that. Several of our writers have been successful in gaining exposure to the extent that book publishers have accepted their work. Our own Paul Petillo is an excellent example of that success. We're not taking credit for Paul's book, but we like to think that the extraordinary exposure helped. AXcess News publishes reviews on films, television programming, books, PC games, new music releases, live concerts and other events. Please send review copies of books, CDs and anything else you would like us to consider to: AXcess News If you would like us to review a live concert or theatrical production, please send tickets and preferably stage passes (include two of each) to the above address as far in advance as possible. Confirmed attendance will be provided or tickets and press passes returned. If an interview can be arranged with the members of the band or cast, that would be very beneficial. Include any promotional material you think may be helpful when sending tickets and stage passes. Concert and theatrical productions (plays) should be queried in advance for staff availability. Include the cell phone number and name of a contact person who would meet our reporter upon their arrival at that location. As we're headquartered the Capitol of Nevada, we're minutes away from downtown Reno. Any concerts or theatrical productions playing there would most likely receive our attendance and review - if tickets and stage passes are provided. The greater Los Angeles area is also staffed by AXcess News reporters and we would most likely attend those productions hosted there as well. AXcess News does permit non-commercial web sites to display or link to our stories. We require that you ask for written permission first! We would most likely grant consent. If we do extend permission to you to use one of our stories, we require that the name of the writer be included, that our name appear in parenthesis at the beginning of the article - like this: (AXcess News). You must also provide a link to our home page from that story. We would prefer that you link our name that you placed in parenthesis at the beginning of the story (most of our stories already have our name in parenthesis in it - don't change it's layout.) to our home page. Use this link: http://www.axcessnews.com Just because we extend you consent, that doesn't mean you can use every story we publish. Some users have abused that and asked for consent for a particular category when referring to an article and took that to mean that we granted them consent to reprint or post every story we wrote about in that news category. Should you desire to use our news content on a regular basis please contact our editor-in-chief about coming to some kind of agreement for that. We do offer an SCD User Program which would fit nicely into web sites looking to keep traffic on their pages rather than the typical click-through of RSS headline feeds. Yes, that's right, the news can be automatically displayed on your pages. But you must provide us a web page of yours to use as a template to display stories on. Simply, we give you a special code for displaying headlines on your site and if viewed, the page looks like its on your site but its really hosted on our server. If your website has at least 30,000 page views a month you can qualify for this free program. Larger traffic sites may qualify for revenue sharing. Contact our editor-in-chief if your web site's monthly traffic exceeds 100,000 page views. This program should be available by February 2007. It is currently under final beta development. If you have a news tip you'd like to send us, please email our editor-in-chief. Provide as much information as possible. Links to where we can find facts or information to substantiate your tip would be helpful. Include your name and contact information, which should include your telephone number in case we need additional information quickly. When providing a news tip, please do not send a one line comment like, "check out this stock, its super!", or "this company ripped me off!". Opinions are not news tips. A news tip is not a sales pitch either. Do not send us new product or services notifications. This includes the launch of new web sites, unless the site itself has something our readers would really be interested in, like traffic cams, or cheap gas prices. If you are providing information about something criminal that your concerned about and want to expose, please use caution. We are very careful about writing about corporate injustice, like unfair labor issues, medical/insurance problems, or sexual harassment. Though we will take these inquiries very seriously, news tips of this nature requires telephone verification and follow up with you. You must provide a daytime phone we can reach you at.
