While Anaheim is known for tourist attractions such as Disneyland, Knott’s Berry Farms and sports team such as the Anaheim Ducks and Los Angeles Angels, early this morning, a man in his 30s was brutally stabbed in a local shopping center. Police arrived on the scene around 1 am to find a man, yet to be identified who had been stabbed. He was rushed to UC Irvine Medical Center in Orange County where he ultimately died. If anyone has any information, authorities urge for them to call Orange County Crime Stoppers at (855) 847-6227.

While many associate Anaheim with happiness and travel, according to Neighborhood Scout, Anaheim has a crime index score of 18. To put it into perspective, 100 is the safest. It also revealed that there are approximately 1,210 violent crimes a year, which means Anaheim residents or tourists have a 1 in 290 chance of being a victim of a violent crime. A violent crime in this case refers to murder, rape, robbery or assault.

Area Vibes does very little to appease the situation. According to a poll on their site, based on 12 responses (which we understand is not a huge sample size), 4 people believed there was little crime in the area, 4 people believed that there is more crime in the area than they’d like and the other 4 believed that crime is rampant in the area. The website also provides some statistics such as the crime rate in Anaheim is 8% higher than the national average, there are at least 8.39 daily crimes happening in Anaheim and that Anaheim residents have a 1 in 33 chance of being a victim of a crime.

And while many visitors feel safe at Disneyland, there are many incidents that take place on Disney premises. There have been three violent crimes within Disneyland, a stabbing, a car accident and a fatal shooting that were of no fault of the park itself but due to guest altercations. While security to the park has significantly increased throughout the years, it still makes families hesitate to go to Disneyland over Disney World.

A recent report announced that Anaheim plans on opening 9 more breweries in the next year and a half. With alcohol being so readily available to residents and tourists, we wonder if the crime rate will increase or will the new sophisticated atmosphere bring a much-needed overhaul to the area.
