It seems as if everywhere you turn, we are bombarded by horrific news that makes us scared for our future. Recently, we have undergone the tragedy that occurred at Pulse nightclub in Orlando and were then distraught by the family who lost their two-year-old son in a Disney World alligator attack. While our hearts continue to break for these people, we need to be surrounded by some good news. Here are a few good news stories from the recent past.

Aubrey Chernick Honored

Philanthropist Aubrey Chernick was recently honored with a Lifetime Legacy Award from Children Uniting Nations. Throughout his career, Aubrey has made an effort to support at-risk and foster children. He supports improving education and has funded many charitable programs throughout Los Angeles. It’s nice to see good people get recognized for the great work they do.

Military Send Off

Serina Vines was a homeless military vet who passed away. It turned out that only about three or four people would be attending her funeral, and Major Jaspen Boothe decided to take action. She reached out to people and tried to find relatives or loved ones who may want to attend. While she was hoping to generate at least 20 other people, she rallied up more than 200 people who came to show their support and give Vine the send off she deserved.

Grandmother’s Flight

It’s not easy to sit on an airplane knowing that you’re going to grandson’s funeral. Luis Omar Ocasio-Capo was one of the youngest victims from the Orlando massacre that took place, and his grandmother was on a JetBlue flight shortly after hearing of her grandson’s death. People on the flight got wind, and when the flight landed, every single person on the plane showed their support and comforted the woman with words of kindness or gestures.

Graduation Part 2

Scott Dunn was all set to graduate high school when a car crash sent him into a coma. Three weeks later, Dunn was feeling much better, and while he received his diploma, he was unable to actually attend graduation. Instead of moving on, half of his classmates decided to return to the high school’s gym so that Dunn could participate. Not only was he surrounded by others in caps and gowns, but he was able to walk across the stage to receive his diploma.

Blood Donation

Most Muslims observe Ramadan by refraining from food and drink. In Rochester Hills, Michigan, a Muslim community broke their fasting so that they could donate blood for the victims of the Orlando shooting.

Instead of focusing on the bad, we need to find more ways to focus on the good. Look for stories that involve people doing good deeds or celebrating a friendly milestone instead of one with hate. Remember that love should outweigh hate, and try to live your life accordingly.

At the same time, it’s always a good idea to remind those you care about how much you love them. Spend time with your loved ones with a fun travel experience or just enjoying precious time together. Although we can wish that everything is going to be okay, it’s important to remember that we never know what tomorrow will bring.
