Using Keto to Cure Type 2 Diabetes

Please share this story:

The American population is at risk. In just the last three years, there has been a 41% increase in type 2 diabetes. It is time to find a cure but on a more personal level, it is time to take a good hard look at what is on our plates. Instead of taking a conscious approach to our diet, most Americans eat out and consume processed food products on a regular basis. More than 80 million Americans eat at a fast food restaurant on any given day. Major food chains certainly don’t mind that. In fact, McDonalds alone has made over $10 billion dollars in the past year. But as food giants like McDonalds keep on getting richer and richer, we as consumers keep getting poorer in health. It’s no wonder that the number of obese Americans is on the rise, along with those suffering with Type 2 Diabetes, or heading towards that path.

Reversing the Path to Type 2 Diabetes

Prediabetes is one of the most immediate concerns we should have on our agenda. Prediabetes occurs when the body becomes insulin resistant and if left untreated, the condition can easily lead to Type 2 Diabetes over the span of five years. Over one-third of U.S. adults are living with prediabetes. What’s scarier? Most don’t even know that they have it.

The stakes are getting higher and we can no longer hide from the consequences of a poor diet. Luckily, there is a popular diet that is encouraging us to rethink the way we feed our bodies and it is called the Ketogenic diet.

The Ketogenic Diet, also called the Keto Diet has been around since the early 1920s. At the time, the diet was used to treat children with Epilepsy and other health conditions. As time went on, modern medicine became more and more advanced, and people began to turn to medication instead of diet to treat different ailments. Although, our early doctors were really on to something. The food we consume has an innate impact on our health and our predisposition to disease. Fortunately, we have since returned to the Ketogenic diet to do what modern medicine simply cannot, and that is using food to prevent disease from ever happening in the first place.

‘Dr. Keto’s’ Take on the Path to Health

According to Board-certified physician of internal medicine, Dr. Limansky, also known as “Dr. Keto, ” as the levels of diabetes and insulin resistance continue on an upward trend, we need to radically change our approach and understanding of nutrition’s importance in combating these epidemics. Keto is one such tool that he believes will be sustainable in the fight against diabetes. He believes so strongly in the power of the Keto Diet that he helped create BiohackMD, a company whose lifeblood is helping people live longer, healthier lives through Keto.

“My goal is to revolutionize health care by going back to the basic building blocks which constitute health, ” he says. He continues, “By taking simple steps such as modifying diet, exercising, incorporating stress reduction, improving sleep and focusing on meditation among other techniques, many of the diseases afflicting our society may be reversed. My ultimate goal is to practice health care instead of sick care.”

How Keto Can Help

As a practicing physician, Dr. Limansky is certainly not against the path of modern medicine. Instead, he is helping us work with modern medicine to achieve optimum wellness and to take control of our own health. In an age when individuals are quicker to reach for the medicine cabinet rather than reconsidering their food choices, Dr. Limansky hopes to bring a more introspective approach.

This begins with the Ketogenic diet. The diet has been recognized as a preventative and medicinal path against type 2 diabetes as it keeps insulin low and ketones high. Ketones are acids that remain in the body when there is nothing left to burn. When this occurs, the body burns fat instead, helping individuals to control and lose weight. When insulin levels are high, ketones are suppressed, which keeps the body from burning fat and can thus increase the risk for developing Type 2 Diabetes. The Ketogenic diet is ultimately a low carbohydrate diet, meaning that it is a lower glucose diet. And while people with Type 2 Diabetes have higher blood sugar, following a Ketogenic can lead to lower blood sugar, while sustaining weight loss as well.

We do not have a cure for Type 2 Diabetes yet. It could be a number of years until we get there. But the empowering thing is, each and every one of us has the power to take control of our own health. By looking within at the food and lifestyle choices we are making, we have the power to change course and align with a healthier, more active future. What’s on your plate?
