Howard Fensterman Is a Lawyer for the People

Howard Fensterman is an attorney and philanthropist in New York who specializes in healthcare and financial malpractice law. The types of cases he’s worked on are wide-ranging, but his commitment to the profession and to his clients has always been unwavering.

Starting out

Fensterman graduated from Georgetown University Law Center in 1978 and founded the Abrams, Fensterman law firm in 2000. The law firm is known for its work in all areas of healthcare law and has also garnered attention for success in other areas.

He is currently involved in all aspects of the firm’s operations, including representing organizations and individuals, negotiating settlements, and handling partnership agreements and real estate. He is currently appointed to practice in New York, New Jersey, Maryland, and the District of Columbia.

In the news

Both his firm and Fensterman himself frequently appear in the news. In 2018, for example, the firm was recognized by former healthcare administrator Carolyn Reinach Wolfe, who joined the team to practice mental health law.

Anyone who works in a Behavioral Health Center can stress the importance of caring for and representing those with mental health issues. The firm’s mental health law practice that she leads is the only one of its kind in the country that specializes in guiding families through the legal complexities of cases involving those with mental health and/or substance abuse issues.

Fensterman himself is possibly most well-known, at least when it comes to practicing law, for the case where he represented the American Gulf Insurance Company in a formal complaint against the United Arab Emirates and members of the Arab royal family for fraud against many prominent New York investors. As an investor himself, he is dedicated to protecting others from falling prey to such situations.

More recently, Fensterman made the news for defending patients’ rights to make requests in a case against East Neck Nursing Home in New York. The case involves a male exotic dancing performance at the nursing home, and the son of Bernice Youngblood (a resident) sued the home because he believed the performance was harmful to his mother. The event, however, was voted on by residents of the nursing home, attendance was optional, and it eventually came to light that Youngblood’s son’s girlfriend took her to the event. No other complaints have been made regarding the event.

Philanthropy

In addition to taking on a wide variety of cases, Fensterman is also involved with many charities. He is a strong believer in the concept of spontaneous goodwill and giving to the community. He is a member of the Board of Trustees for Long Island’s chapter of the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation, and due to his contributions to research, education, and outreach programs, the foundation named him their “Man of the Year” in 2011.

He has also made substantial contributions to the Chabad of Port Washington, whose staff and volunteer workers provide a “home away from home” for those who enter. The foundation is notable for its Israel Children’s Cancer Foundation as well as its educational campus and other charitable projects in the area.

Additional practices

Abrams, Fensterman has grown into a team of well over 80 attorneys with different backgrounds and specialties. In addition to cases in the healthcare field, the firm has attorneys seasoned in matrimonial and family law and real estate practice. Elder law, personal injury, white collar criminal defense, and transportation law are also all covered under the firm’s umbrella.

Howard Fensterman is a man of many interests, and his law firm’s continuing growth reflects that. For whatever they may need, Fensterman is a name people can believe in.
