(AXcess News) Washington – Ever since the deranged mass shootings of children at more than one school has taken place lawmakers have been jumping on gun control with a vengence. Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio is permitting his famous volunteer posse to bear arms while patroling local schools and other sheriffs around the country are sounding off on control themselves, yet none seem to be completely for banning firearm ownership. Rather, most believe that people have the right to bear arms and defend themselves, though this doesn’t seem to be the mantra going around amongst lawmakers who want more control – and at a federal level.
Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke Jr. has created a national uproar for urging citizens to learn how to handle firearms so they can defend themselves, because he says,”simply calling 911 and waiting is no longer your best option.”
Part of law enforcement’s frustration is not having enough police officers to safely cover their communities, though this goes back to budget constraints in local government.
Some blame society itself and the lack of one-on-one personal communication and community involvement relating to violent video games, cellular phones and mobile computing. That social alienation has taken a toll on America’s civil society and most likely we have not seen the last shooting episode in a public school as a result.
But here are some facts on guns, none the less, taken from Steve Siebold’s new book,”Sex,Politics and Religion: How Delusional Thinking is Destroying America.”
– The current gun laws in some states protect the criminals more than the victims. Statistics from the U.S. National Crime Survey prove this. They show that if a robbery victim does not defend himself, the robbery will succeed 88% of the time, and the victim will be injured 25% of the time. If the victim resists with a gun,the robbery’s success rate falls to 30% and the injury rate falls to 17%.
– If a burglar enters your home, you should be able to shoot first and ask questions later. Not too long ago,a 20 year old single mother sat in her home holding her baby in one arm and gun in the other while an armed robber was attempting to break in. Knowing she could be charged with murder if she killed him,she called 911 and asked the operator if it was ok to shoot him. Why did she have to call 911 and ask for permission to defend her life? It’s ridiculous.
– Bad people will always have guns regardless what the laws are,and good people should have the right to protect themselves. Banning guns only punishes the innocent and leaves them unable to fight back. The only people who win when gun control laws are enacted are the criminals. All these laws do is motivate robbers, muggers and thieves.
– According the National Rifle Association, over 100 million Americans own guns. That’s roughly 1/3 of the population, and 2.2 million background checks were performed alone last month,an increase of 58.6 percent over the same period in 2011. Gun retailers are seeing record sales right now because of the fears people have of what laws the government might impose. The bottom line: more guns equal less crime.
Siebold says,”In a perfect world we wouldn’t need guns. But until that happens,he says we should all exercise our second amendment rights, voice our support and keep a close eye on anti-gun crusaders who want to make our decisions for us.”
